God rightly desires our attention and focus. If we don’t worship Him, we will end up worshipping something else.
All of life should be a response to God, including our music. We worship God with our lives by serving Him from an attitude of humble submission. God’s people (the Church) are called to declare God’s praises—sometimes with our words, always with our lives.
The weekly worship service/meeting is simply a gathering of those who have been worshipping all week long. It is unique in that it is a specific time for God’s people to worship Him together. Although there are many different elements in that service, the primary concern is pleasing God. Worship is a selfless act, therefore the first question must not be "What do I want?," but "What would please God?"
The worship team exists to lead/prompt/assist the rest of the congregation during the worship service. They strive to avoid selfish motivations and instead do what is best for the whole church. In order to lead worship, one must already be a worshiper. Members of the worship team must be followers of Jesus who understand and believe the Gospel (forgiveness of sins cannot be earned, but is a gift given by God to all those who put their faith in Jesus). In addition to the spiritual qualification, it is also necessary that worship team members have some musical ability. God gives each person abilities, and whether it be music or some other ministry, it is important for each member of God’s family to find their place of service.
If you’re interested in this ministry, please contact someone on the worship council. We would love to get to know you and help you find out whether music ministry at Faith would be a good place of service for you and the church. In addition to a personal interview, a musical audition will also be required for anyone desiring to join the worship team.
